Description

Taken in the ancient ruined city of Pompeii, near Napoli in Italy. Pompeii, a city of around 11,500 people, was destroyed and buried under around 6m of ash From the eruption of mount Versuvius in 79AD. Well preserved under the ash, it was undisturbed for hundreds of years. The pyroclastic ash cloud vaporised most living things, including the People, many of whom were frozen in place where they stood or sat. When it was rediscovered many years later the impressions of people and animals were still there. This is one of those ancient Pompeiians
